Youth Football Stats

Paper stat sheet vs. a stats app for youth football

Both work. The right choice depends on how much you want to do after the final whistle.

Paper

  • Pros: no battery, no signal needed, quick to start.
  • Cons: you add up every total by hand, it’s easy to make math errors, and sheets get wet, wrinkled, or lost. Season totals mean re-typing everything into a spreadsheet.

A stats app

  • Pros: totals and leaderboards are calculated for you, the game is easy to share with parents and staff, and a season of games lives in one place.
  • Cons: it needs a charged phone, and entry takes practice. Pick one that works offline so a bad signal never stops you.

A good middle path

Some coaches keep paper as a backup for the first few games while they get comfortable with an app. Once you trust the numbers, the time you save after each game adds up quickly over a season.
